It is a truly unique quality of Dominical, it is not in the heart of what could be called "typical tourism" in Costa Rica, and instead of the high-rise hotels and fast food you will find on other beaches, in Playa Dominical the rainforest continues right out of the mountains and virtually covers the town.
It is a very small town usually frequented by surfers and families looking for a truer taste of what Costa Rica is really like.
There are some of the finest beaches in Costa Rica and crowds are not an issue on the sands of Playa Dominical.
Overlooking the town of Playa Dominical lies a strech of the Talamanca mountain range that is completely covered with thick virgin rainforest. It is rises up at such a steep angle, it is hard to understand how it all hangs on; but it does, offering everyshade of green that can be found in a tropical jungle - and if you only had the time, you'd find every color you can imagine in the great variety of tropical wildflowers that live not just in the rainforest, but right along the road you will walk when you are in Playa Dominical.
