Yoga as a Solution The first evening in Samasati Nature Retreat we will enjoy a passive, relaxing, restorative class together. Leaving the hum and scheduling of the daily city life behind us.

Starting each tropical morning with a Vinyasa practice to awaken your senses and nourish your soul, and then take a playful asana journey deeper into your practice in the late afternoon.

In between there are many options: surfing, snorkeling, sunning, visiting the near-by rainforest, or just relaxing and doing nothing.

I don't know how to say enough about the beautiful experience I had at Samasati. RoxAnn gave the utmost care and attention to detail both before and during the retreat. Her dedication to each student nurtured and challenged us as individuals. I enjoy the company of our diverse group. We practiced, laughed, ate, played together, and many lasting friendships were created. Samasati and the Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica could not be more beautiful- the rainforest, the wonderful staff that cared of us, the delicious food. This was truly a dream come true for me.

I had a fantastic break from my everyday life at RoxAnn Madera's Costa Rican Yoga Retreat at Samasati. It is a place that can be enjoyed traveling solo or with your friend or loved one.
With four classes of yoga every day, I was not lacking for opportunities. The restoratrive class was my favorite. Most of the day was free to enjoy the many varied available activities.
RoxAnn has a wonderful gift for teaching. I have been attending her classes for several years. She welcomes all levels and classes are always a challenge.

I really enjoyed my April trip to Costa Rica with RoxAnn and Rodrigo. Loved the way the hotel was nestled in the jungle and really felt part of the environment. It was far away from the noise of the city and overlooked the non touristy coastal town of Puerto Viejo.
I am not vegetarian, but the food was really good, inventive, plentiful, and available three times daily. The coffee was exceptional!
RoxAnn taught her yoga classes in a beautiful circular room with hard wood floor where the call of monkeys and the sight of shocking pink flowers, bright yellow birds and iridescent butterflies at times competed with RoxAnn for my attention. Her classes seemed effortlessy individualized and the restorative part just the ticket for a good night sleep.
All the arrangements went off without a hitch and I look forward to doing another  yoga trip soon.

Costa Rica-Caribbean Side

Distanced from the rest of the country, this region of Costa Rica is home to some of the most gorgeous coconut-tree-lined beaches in the world.

In addition, the Atlantic South Caribbean region is filled with untouched nature and includes several of the country’s most notable national parks - Braulio Carrillo, Cahuita, Chirripó, Tortuguero, La Amistad - as well as well-known protected areas: the Hitoy-Cerere Biological Reserve and the Gandoca Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge.

This is a coast where the evergreen mountains of the Alta Talamanca- populated by indigenous people- line the long stretches of quiet, pristine sandy beaches.

Tucuxi dolphins swim along these shores, and four species of sea turtles are nesting between the months of March and July on the beaches of the Gandoca Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge and of Tortugero National Park.

Ideal for snorkeling, diving, kayaking, surfing, horseback riding, birdwatching, and hiking, the South Caribbean’s biodiversity attracts nature lovers from all over the world.

The South Caribbean coastal area is also home to the Afro-Caribbean culture - and music! Calypso and reggae sounds are always floating in the air, together with the smell of spicy dishes seasoned with the distinctive aroma of coconut milk.

It has been calculated that there are about 45 different nationalities living in the area between Cahuita and Manzanillo. People from the US, Italy, France, Switzerland and various other countries are involved in a multitude of businesses, mostly tourism related- like restaurants, hotels, tour services and conservation projects.

The local temperature is a stable 80 degrees ( 28 C) year around. The climate has often been called a "micro-climate", implying that the variable factors affecting this region are independent from the rest of the neighboring areas. This region shares very little in common with the rest of the country's weather cycles and prognostication, as the rainy season is often blessed with several weeks of dry, hot and sunny days, while weeks of unstoppable tropical rains can be experienced during the summer season. The best, driest and most stable months of the year are September/October and February through April.
